Father James J. Kasinski 1941-2025

Father James J. Kasinski, long-time Niagara Falls pastor, died Jan. 6, 2025, after nearly 59 years in priestly life.

Born Aug. 30, 1941, in Buffalo, to Walter and Leokadja (Sekula) Kasinski, Father Kasinski attended St. Monica School followed by the Diocesan Preparatory Seminary, both in Buffalo.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Our Lady of the Angels Seminary at Niagara University, which he followed by attending St. John Vianney Seminary in East Aurora.

On May 21, 1966, Bishop James McNulty ordained Father Kasinski at Our Lady of Victory Basilica in Lackawanna.

Father Kasinski’s assignments include serving as administrator of St. Jude Mission in Sardinia for one year, followed by 12 years as an associate at Christ the King Parish in Snyder. He taught at Archbishop Walsh High School in Olean from 1979-1983. He held pastorates at St. Benedict the Moor, Buffalo; St. Luke, Buffalo; Assumption, Portageville; St. Mary’s Canaseraga; and Sacred Heart, Niagara Falls from 1995-2008.

He retired in 2011.

Family will receive friends at the Amigone Funeral Home, 1024 French Road, Cheektowaga, on Friday, Jan. 10 from 4-7 p.m. Father Kasinski will lie in repose Saturday morning, Jan. 11 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at OLV Basilica, 767 Ridge Road, Lackawanna, where a funeral Mass will immediately follow with Bishop Michael W. Fisher as the principal celebrant.
