Sister Lucina Stang, OSF 1931-2024

Sister Lucina Stang, OSF, who had a ministry of education for 60 years, died Nov. 20, 2024. She was 93.

Born May 12, 1931, in Buffalo to Anthony and Lucia (Willi) Stang, the former Lillian Stang attended the Seminary of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Stella Niagara. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Rosary Hill College (now Damen) in Amherst in 1961, and a master’s in Education from Buffalo State College in 1975.
Sister Lucina joined the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity in 1951 at Stella Niagara. She professed her first vows on Aug. 18, 1953, and her final vows three years later.
Sister began teaching at St. Ann School in Buffalo in 1953. After a year, she moved to St. Agnes School in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey. She returned to the Diocese of Buffalo in 1958 and began teaching at St. Benedict School in Eggertsville. She went on to teach at St. Joseph School in Gowanda, Stella Niagara Elementary School, St. Peter School in Lewiston, and Stella Niagara Education Park.
In 1997, she took on the role of tutor and Stella Niagara Education Park and in 2004, Sister Lucina began a 10 year ministry as library assistant. She also taught religious education at St. Peter’s in Lewiston for several years.
Sister Lucina became a resident of the Health Center at Stella Niagara in May 2019.
She is predeceased by her parents and brother, Werner Stang.A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Nov. 26, at the Sisters’ Chapel in Stella Niagara. Burial will take place Tuesday Nov. 20 at the Sisters’ Cemetery in Stella Niagara.
