Memorial Mass planned for Friar Joseph Benicewicz, OFM Conv.

Our Lady of the Angels Province Minister Provincial Father Michael Heine, OFM Conv., will be the principal celebrant for a memorial Mass for Father Joseph Benicewicz, OFM Conv., at 12 noon, on Sunday, Oct. 27, at St. Francis High Schools’ Alumni Hall Theatre, 4129 Lake Shore Road, Hamburg. St. Francis President Father Matthew Foley, OFM Conv., will deliver the homily.

Father Benicewicz died unexpectedly on Sept. 6, in Kensington, Connecticut. He served at St. Francis for 19 years as a math and religion teacher, Student Council moderator, baseball coach, department chairperson, assistant principal, principal, and lastly president of St. Francis.

Born on Feb. 29, 1960, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Walter and Theresa (Niemczyk) Benicewicz. He was predeceased by his brother, Walter Jr. He is survived by his sister, Lorraine Ludwig, along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Franciscan Education Fund (12300 Folly Quarter Road, Ellicott City, MD 21042).

Donations can be made to the Father Joseph Benicewicz, OFM Memorial Scholarship Fund at St. Francis High School. The fund will honor Father Joe’s memory by providing financial support to deserving students.
