Father Seweryn Koszyk, SAC, passes away

Father Seweryn J. Koszyk, SAC, who served at the Infant Jesus Shrine in North Tonawanda, died Aug 6, 2024, at the age of 89. He will be remembered as the cherished son of the late Franciszek Koszyk and Aniela Weglarz, loving brother of the late Zygfryd, Jan, Kazmiera (Sopicki) and Danuta (Stuglik) Koszyk.

Father Koszyk joined the Pallottine Fathers in 1952 and was ordained in 1959.

He served in Poland from 1959 to 1971 in Gdansk, Wadowice and Radom. In 1971, he came to the United States and served at the Infant Jesus Shrine and Ascension Parish, both in North Tonawanda; St. John the Evangelist in South Buffalo, St. John Kanty in Buffalo; and as pastor of St. George Parish in Niagara Falls from 1981 until 2008, at which time he returned to the Infant Jesus Shrine.

He also served as a part time chaplain at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Buffalo.

Friends are asked to gather at the Saber Funeral Home, 549 Oliver St., North Tonawanda on Friday, Aug. 9 from 4-7 p.m. Father Koszyk will lie in repose at the Infant Jesus Shrine (3452 Niagara Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda) on Saturday, Aug. 10 from 11a.m. to Noon. A funeral Mass will follow at noon. Burial to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
