Catholic Charities of Buffalo names Cherie Sugg as chief HR officer

Catholic Charities of Buffalo has named Cherie Sugg its chief human resources officer.

In her new role, Sugg will be responsible for shaping and executing human resource strategies for the organization including overseeing the recruitment and retention of a diverse and skilled workforce, managing employee relations, developing and implementing professional development and training programs, and helping agency leaders set goals for diversity, equity and inclusion.

“Cherie’s decades of strategic human resource expertise and relationship building will help us to strengthen and inspire our people in continuing to provide needed programs and services,” said Deacon Steve Schumer, president and CEO, Catholic Charities. “We welcome Cherie to our leadership team as we all work to be a beacon of hope for the most vulnerable in our community.”

Sugg brings more than 35 years of senior human resource leadership experience to her new role with Catholic Charities. She has led the human resource functions of small, local companies as well as large, international companies and was most recently with Windham Professionals Inc.

An active member of several local and national human resource management associations, Sugg has also volunteered with local charities including Buffalo City Mission and Cornerstone Manor. She resides in Lockport.
