Deacon John J. Wlos 1944-2020

Deacon John J. Wlos, who served at SS. Peter & Paul Parish in Hamburg, died Oct. 18, 2020, after a brief illness.

Born May 27, 1944, the Eden resident had served at SS. Peter & Paul Parish since his 2013 ordination. He also served as eucharistic minister at Lakewood Nursing Facility, Hamburg; as Scripture Study facilitator on St. Paul’s Letters; and at Catholic Charities food pantry, Lackawanna.

Deacon Wlos made a beautiful stained-glass deacons cross that hung in the chapel of St. Paul’s dorm at Christ the King Seminary where formation classes spent many hours praying.

He is survived by his wife, Susan, and children Jacquelynn Dombrowski and Joseph Wlos.

A wake service will take place Thursday, Oct. 22 from 4-7 p.m. at SS. Peter & Paul. Deacons, wives, and priests are invited to gather at 7 p.m. to pray the office for him. A funeral Mass will take place Friday, Oct. 23 at 10:30 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul. Classmates Deacon Frank Kedzielawa and Deacon Mark Kehl will diaconate.
