Legion of Mary to hold weekly rosary at Cheektowaga church

Share

The Legion of Mary is sponsoring an outdoor public rosary every Monday evening at 6 p.m. in front of Infant of Prague Church at 921 Cleveland Drive, Cheektowaga. All are welcome.

Started in Ireland by Frank Duff, the Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church, with well over 3 million active members in almost every country of the world. It has been active in the United States since 1931, and endorsed by the Second Vatican Council. The main purpose of the Legion of Mary is to give glory to God through the sanctification of its members.

Active members of the Legion of Mary serve the community in various capacities. Auxiliary members pray the rosary and Legion prays daily.

Over more than four centuries, several popes have promoted the rosary as part of the veneration of Mary in the Catholic Church, and consisting essentially in meditation on the life of Christ. The rosary also represents the Catholic emphasis on “participation in the life of Mary, whose focus was Christ,” and the theme “to Christ through Mary.”
