Diocese of Buffalo Catholic Schools names finance manager and human resource manager

Father Steven Jekielek

The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo is pleased to announce two new appointments for its Catholic Education department. Father Steven Jekielek has been named finance manager and Michael Baumann has been appointed human resources manager.

In addition to his new duties he continues as vicar forane of the Niagara/Orleans Vicariate.

In the finance role, Father Jekielek is responsible for overseeing and managing the financial health of Catholic Education within the diocese. This position ensures that fair, transparent, and high integrity policies, processes, systems, and resources promote the affordability of our programs and our long-term financial viability. He began his role on April 1.

He holds a bachelor’s degree, as well as an MBA, from University at Buffalo. Prior to joining the priesthood, Father Jekielek worked for 19 years at Life Technologies Corp., now Thermo Fisher Scientific, on Grand Island.

Michael Baumann

In his new role, beginning July 1, Baumann will be responsible for working with the diocesan Human Resources department and school principals in the administration of school-related human resources matters. The goal of this role is to achieve the strategic objectives of Catholic Schools continuing to be a great place to work by helping school leaders create a motivating and rewarding workplace that attracts, develops and retains top talent where our team members find Christ, meaning and joy in their work.

Baumann currently is the chief operating officer at Cardinal O’Hara High School in Tonawanda, responsible for the general administration of all instructional, business and other operations of the co-educational high school. He also served as superintendent of schools at Newfane Central Schools, and as assistant superintendent/Human Resources & Planning, in the Sweet Home Central School District. He holds a bachelor’s degree and a master of arts in school counseling, and a master of arts in educational administration and supervision, all from Canisius University.
