Sister Therese Kinsel, OSF 1936-2025

Sister Therese Kinsel, OSF, whose ministry included schools, retreats, pastoral and secretarial work, died May 1, 2025 at the age of 88 at the Stella Niagara Health Center.

Born May 9, 1936 in New Lexington, Ohio as Janet Kinsel, Sister Therese entered the Sisters of St. Francis on October 31, 1954 and was professed July 2, 1957.

She served in two states. Her ministry in New York included roles at Sacred Heart Academy (Buffalo), Stella Niagara Seminary (Stella Niagara), Bishop McMahon High School (Buffalo), Bishop O’Hern House of Prayer (Buffalo), Buffalo Center of Renewal, and St. Joseph School (Gowanda).

Sister Therese also served at ten different schools and centers in Ohio. After retiring in Ohio in 2011, she moved into the Stella Niagara Health Center in 2012.

She is predeceased by her parents, Hugh F. and Margaret (Maher) Kinsel, her brothers James (Julia) Kinsel, Wilfred Kinsel, Edmund Kinsel and sisters Virginia (Robert) McLain, Mary Joan (Robert) Soller and a great nephew, Andrew Soller. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Deanna Kinsel, numerous nieces and nephews, and her Sisters in the Stella Niagara Community.

Her funeral Mass was held Monday, May 5 at Stella Niagara. Her burial was held on the morning of Tuesday, May 6 at Stella Niagara Cemetery.
