Sister M. Alice Metzger, OSF 1930-2025

Teacher and tutor Sister M. Alice Metzger, OSF, died on March 7, 2025, at Stella Niagara Health Center at the age of 94.
Born Elaine Metzger in Columbus, Ohio, on April 11, 1930, she is the daughter of John and Alice (Boley) Metzger.
She entered the Sisters of St. Francis order on Sept. 1, 1948, and professed Aug. 17, 1951. She received a bachelor’s degree from Rosary Hill College (now Daemen University) in Buffalo in 1975.
Sister Alice served mainly in education and farming/gardening at St. Ann School, Buffalo (1951-52); St. Anthony School, Warsaw (1952-53); Stella Niagara (1962-64 and 1969-70); and St. Benedict School, Eggertsville (1970-74). She also served in Ohio, West Virginia and New Jersey.
Over time, Sister Alice also volunteered as a tutor in a local public school, as a gardener, and with St. Mary Parish’s outreach program in New Straitsville, Ohio.
She cared for her elderly parents from 1990-93.
She retired in Ohio in 1999 and moved to the Stella Niagara in 2022, where she was a joyful member of the health center community.
Sister Alice was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Father John Metzger and Brice Metzger.
A funeral and burial will take place in Ohio.
