Sister M. Phyllis Fuest, OSF 1928-2024

Sister M. Phyllis Fuest, OSF, died Dec. 23, 2024, at Kenmore Mercy Hospital. She was 96 years old.

The former Rita Fuest was born to Lawrence and Marian Moll Fuest on May 28, 1928, in Buffalo. She attended St. Ann School of Business in Buffalo, and Rosary Hill College (now Daemen University) in Amherst, graduating in 1963.
After entering Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity community on Sept. 3, 1952, at Stella Niagara, she professed her final vows Aug. 18, 1958.
Sister Phyllis took on a business/clerical/administrative ministry.
She served as a teacher at Bishop McMahon High School in Buffalo from 1955-1963. Then she spent 20 years as assistant to the business administrator at Rosary Hill College. She went on to serve as director of housekeeping at Christ the King Seminary, East Aurora, followed by secretary at St. Lawrence Parish, Buffalo; office manager for Dr. William Braun’s office, Buffalo; pastoral assistant and bookkeeper at Immaculate Conception Parish, Eden. Her last position was as postmaster for the Stella Niagara Post Office from 2000-2018.
Sister Phyllis retired at Stella Niagara in 2018, then became a resident of the Health Center at Stella Niagara in December 2019.
She is survived by her sisters Patricia Goodrich; Sister Ritamary Fuest, OSF; and Sister Dorothy Mueller, OSF. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Donald.
A wake will be held Monday, Dec. 30 from 4-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the Sisters’ Chapel, Stella Niagara, at 10 a.m.Burial will take place at the Sisters’ Cemetery at Stella Niagara, on Jan. 2, 2025.
