Share

He endured abandonment and racial prejudice while growing up. Yet through his love of Christ, St. Martin de Porres  loved others who were poor and rejected and helped grow a family of faith. His life is the focus of the latest episode of “Sister Justine’s Saint Tales,” the audio podcast play series produced by the Diocese of Buffalo.

The saint is portrayed by Warren Adams, a senior at Cardinal O’Hara High School, while students at Catholic Academy of Niagara Falls voice the students from the show’s fictional Holy Family School. In the episode, the children are invited to participate in a family history project, but this worries one of the students who is adopted. Sister Justine, voiced by Melissa Cumming, shares the story of St. Martin de Porres to assure her that her adoptive family is her real, loving family, and that we are all children of God.

The lead character is inspired by the late Sister Justine Yanics, who taught within the diocese until the late 1980s. She passed away in 1992.The series may be found among the free offerings on the Diocese of Buffalo Sound Hub, the official diocesan podcast host site. “Sister Justine’s Saint Tales” was developed in 2023 as a means for the diocese to provide creative, original content that educates as well as entertains. It is currently in its third season (click here to access the free playlist). Five of the ten episodes have been released. The remaining five will be released in January, following a Christmas break.
