St. John Paul II Parish in Lake View will have a first class relic of its namesake, the former Pope John Paul II, on display for veneration Saturday, Oct. 19 through Tuesday, Oct. 22.
“We’re trying to create more opportunities for people to come and pray,” explained Jonathan Molik, pastoral associate. “John Paul II is a household name among a lot of Catholics. Experiencing a relic is not something that everyone practices in their faith.”
The small drop of blood has had a permanent home in the parish’s vigil chapel since 2018.
“We like to draw attention to it around the feast day because it is special. It’s not something every parish gets to have. We try to make the most out of the feast day (Oct. 22) when it comes around each year,” said Molik.
The schedule of events is as follows:
Saturday, October 19:
Public veneration: 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Confessions: 3-4 p.m.
Holy Mass: 4:30 p.m.
