Southern Tier Catholic School to remain open, celebrates student achievement

OLEAN — In light of recent developments through the Diocese of Buffalo, Southern Tier Catholic School has confirmed its continued operation despite the recommended closure of St. John Church. This decision underscores the school’s unwavering commitment to providing excellent education and support to the community.

The uncertain future of St. John’s brings a sense of sadness and reflection, but STCS, a regional school, will remain open and continue to thrive. The school acknowledges the integral role it plays in the lives of its students, families and the broader community.

“The commitment to providing a nurturing, faith-based education remains unwavering,” said Brittany Nichols, principal of Southern Tier Catholic School. “During these times, solace is found in the strength of the school community.”

STCS will continue to uphold the values and traditions that define it as a Catholic institution. The dedicated faculty and staff will persist in delivering exceptional education and spiritual guidance to the students.

Gratitude is extended to the St. John’s parish priests, staff and parishioners for their unwavering support over the last year. Their contributions have made a lasting impact on the lives of the children and families at STCS. This support has been instrumental in helping the school continue to educate minds, nurture spirits, and uphold the rich tradition of Catholic education.

In other news, STCS recently celebrated a significant student achievement. Carter McAndrew, a second grader at the school, won the Knights of Columbus sponsored poster contest with the theme “Keep Christ in Christmas.” Carter’s artwork advanced to the State Council level and won for his grade level, bringing pride to the entire school community.

A special thank you is extended to Olean Council 338 for sponsoring this wonderful contest and providing students with the opportunity to showcase their creativity and faith. The school looks forward to participating in the contest again next year.
