Diocesean Sound Hub celebrates Women Religious in March with special series

Share

March is recognized in the United States as Women’s History Month. Since the earliest days of the Diocese of Buffalo, Women Religious have worked tirelessly to change lives and leave positive impacts on individuals and the community.

The Diocese of Buffalo Sound Hub, an audio podcast studio operated by the diocese’s communications department, is marking Women’s History Month by presenting a special series, “Celebrating Buffalo’s Women Religious.” Beginning March 1, the Sound Hub will release episodes highlighting just some of the examples of the countless Women Religious who have served in the diocese. Some to be highlighted are from the earlier years of the diocese while some are living and active today.

“Many of the women who will be featured in the series may be easily recognized. But we point out within each segment that they are just a handful among the many more sisters and Women Religious who have served generations of Catholic and non-Catholics in Western New York,” said Michael Mroziak, senior communications specialist for the diocese and coordinator of the Sound Hub. “There are so many who labored in obscurity over the years, and many sisters today who make a difference in someone’s life.”

It was a real-life Franciscan who served as the inspiration for another series on Sound Hub, “Sister Justine’s Saint Tales,” which concluded its second season in December. Sister Justine Yanics, OSF, taught in Mroziak’s childhood school, the former Prince of Peace (now Catholic Academy of Niagara Falls).

He encourages people who know a sister making a difference to take a moment to express their appreciation to her.

“The series we’re releasing this month celebrates them, too, even if they’re not specifically mentioned by name,” Mroziak said.

“Celebrating Buffalo’s Women Religious” will release new episodes through Saturday, March 23, leading up to Palm Sunday.
