Try Googling “Top Nutrition Trends.” You’ll get site upon site of expert upon expert opinions and statistics stating we are not getting enough potassium; eat more fiber, anchovies; smelts are the fish to eat that contain the most vitamin D, trans fat, saturated fat, no fat, low fat, probiotic, probiotic, probiotic,;Chinese monk fruit is the answer to natural sweeteners, protein powder … the list goes on and on and on.

Cultural Diversity: We have a pope!

Once I heard the news that we have a pope, I got excited and nervous at the same time. In 2005, I was praying that the College of Cardinals would choose a person from Africa or Latin America and so when I heard it was not, I was a little disappointed but I trusted in the decision of the Holy Spirit in Pope Benedict XVI. This time around I did not expect it, so I almost fell off my chair and I started stomping my feet, jumping and dancing for joy at the first pope from Latin America.

On various who-to-watch lists, names like Peter Turkson from Ghana, Angelo Scola from Italy, and even Timothy Dolan from New York City were common. The Education Investment Tax Credit Bill, designed to boost investment in New York’s private and public schools, is expected to draw approximately 10,000 students, parents, teachers and supporters from non-public schools to rally in support of the bill on April 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo.

Latino community excited, surprised by election of new pope

Just after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, an email went out to the staff members of the Catholic Center saying simply, “White smoke!!!” Many gathered in front of televisions and computer monitors, waiting impatiently to hear the name of the 266th pope.
