Bishop Richard J. Malone met people from all corners of the diocese during his Aug. 10 installation as the 14th bishop of Buffalo. Actor brings his one-man 'Maximilian' to the diocese

The story of St. Maximilian Kolbe, OFM Conv., a Franciscan friar who volunteered to die to save another man’s life in the Nazi-controlled concentration camp in Auschwitz, Poland, in 1941, will come to life throughout the Diocese of Buffalo, as actor Leonardo Defilippis brings his one-man drama production to the area in September.

Bike ride seeks to raise funds for World Youth Day

On Sept. 22, instead of just pedaling to get your heart pumping, you can pedal for a purpose as well.  Christ Our Hope Parish in Sherman is holding its third CREEKSIDE RIDE: Pedal for Pilgrims. The bike ride will help raise funds to defray costs of World Youth Day 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Nativity School welcomes back students with iPads

Pencils are passé nowadays. The scribblings of the old number 2s have been replaced with the click click of computer keyboards and the silent touchscreen zooms of tablets. Upper-grade students at Nativity of Our Lord School in Orchard Park are among the students embracing technology in the classroom, as they add iPads to their basic equipment list. read more...

Carol Kostyniak, secretary of education for the diocese, has a love and enthusiasm for Catholic education that she just can’t hide. She is as contagious as a hearty laugh when it comes to education. She always tells me to let her know if I need a story because she always has one regarding schools and students in the diocese.

The staff of the Catholic Center gathered on Aug. 1 for an indoor picnic to honor Bishop Edward U. Kmiec who is retiring after eight years as shepherd of the Diocese of Buffalo. Hotdogs and burgers were served in the Catholic Center cafeteria, and the bishop promised that his staff has not seen the last of him. read more...

Western New York has long been known as an artistic city. It lays claim to such diverse musicians as alternative rockers 10,000 Maniacs, jazz great Bobby Militello and funk master Rick James. One local group and one solo artist have just released CDs that take Christian music to all edges of its boundaries.
