Amherst retreat offers new perspective on Commandments

Teens from across the diocese and parts of Rochester gathered for a Youth 2000 Prayer Festival on one of the first spring-like days of the season. St. Leo Parish in Amherst hosted the Franciscan friar-led retreat. The three-day gathering offered much prayer and adoration, along with Mass and talks on topics such as Jesus, characters from the Bible, and the 10 Commandments.

Catholic Charities raises $8.8 million for 2012 Appeal

The staff and volunteers of Catholic Charities stood optimistic about reaching their $10.6 million goal. Although at the close Appeal Week 2012, $8.8 million had been raised, that figure is a 5.9 percent increase from this time last year. read more...

OLV pastor visits Rome to talk Father Baker

The cause for the canonization of Venerable Nelson H. Baker is continuing, as Msgr. Paul J.E. Burkard, pastor of Our Lady of Victory Basilica, traveled to Rome to meet with Vatican officials in March.

For over 21 years the diocese has ministered to the migrants in Orleans, Genesee and Niagara Counties. Hispanic Migrant Ministry provides such services as visiting of the migrant camps, providing Bible studies, liturgies, family visits, sacramental preparation for children and adults. Another service provided is preparing young ladies for their Quinceañera, which is a celebration of thanksgiving of 15 years of life, a passage from childhood to adolescence.

Charismatic Renewal expands ministry to help those with deep hurts

Since the 1970s, the Charismatic Renewal office has offered healing Masses and individual prayer sessions to those in need throughout the Diocese of Buffalo. In an effort to continue the saving mission of Jesus, Father Richard DiGiulio, director, founded the Burning Bush House of Prayer as a follow-up to the healing Masses. He has developed teams for the healing ministry to meet, pray and discuss the mission of Jesus. read more...

Hundreds of people packed the plaza near the federal courthouse in downtown Buffalo Friday, March 23, as religious advocates rallied against what they believe to be government intrusion on how they practice their faith. Entitled “Stand Up for Religious Freedom,” the rally, which was also held in more than 100 cities nationwide, is a response to the Obama administration’s recent decision to mandate free contraception, sterilization and abortion-inducing drugs in health insurance coverage.

Buffalo to rally for religious freedom

Following the controversy surrounding an Obama administration mandate that insurance companies must provide contraception coverage for religious-affiliated employers, religious freedom advocates are planning a nationwide rally in more than 100 cities, including Buffalo, on Friday, March 23.
