A permanent deacon's wife has special graces

A married deacon cannot fully function within his ordained ministry unless his wife is truly one with him by supporting him in formation before ordination and after ordination in his ministry of altar, word and charity. So intimate is their relationship and unity in the sacrament of marriage, that the Church requires the wife’s consent before her husband can be ordained a deacon.

Mount Mercy, Timon students scrub up for health care experience

Mount Mercy Academy and Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School in South Buffalo have teamed up with nearby Mercy Hospital to offer students a head start in the medical field. Through internships and one-on-one interactions with hospital personnel, students can learn about everything from emergency care to marketing. Fordham president makes case for future of Catholic schools

Concert to raise funds for renovation of O'Hara's 'jewel'

For the past eight years, Cardinal O’Hara High School in Tonawanda has been conducting extensive renovation projects. St. Francis High School in Athol Springs is returning to its roots as a boarding school by opening the third floor of Justin Hall to international students. The 12-room dormitory, open since September, currently houses 20 students, with room for six more. read more...
Bishops vow to fight birth control ruling

In a move that angered religious leaders, the federal government’s Health and Human Services department, under the Obama administration, announced Friday that church-related institutions must provide free birth control coverage for women in their employee insurance plans by next year.

Each year, those who have dedicated themselves to ensuring the continued quality and success of Catholic education in the Diocese of Buffalo are honored at the Making a Difference Dinner. This will be the 12th year of the annual event, which will be held on Jan. 26 at the Adam’s Mark Hotel in Buffalo.
