Jan4 Bishop to announce launch of Catholic Charities 2013 Appeal

Bishop Richard J. Malone will announce the theme and goal of the 89th annual appeal to support Catholic Charities’ services provided throughout Western New York and the Bishop’s Fund for the Faith on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m., at the Monsignor Carr Institute, 20 Rich St., Buffalo.

Dec21 Citing need, Catholic Charities opens Wellsville pantry

Citing a growing need of food for the poor, Catholic Charities opened its fifth diocesan pantry in Wellsville – the first in the Southern Tier – in mid-October. It also marks an expansion into Allegany County for the social service agency.

Chapter 10 of St. Paul’s letter to the Romans sums up most perfectly “The Mission of the Church” and the role and identity of what it means to be a missionary. It reads “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. But how can they call on Him in Whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in Him of Whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? And how can people preach unless they are sent?”

When somebody unexpectedly dies, it leaves those survivors left behind searching for answers by asking, “Why?” It is now what many people in Buffalo’s St. Lawrence Parish community and throughout the diocese are asking after a beloved priest, Father Joseph F. Moreno, Jr., was found dead Saturday after an apparent suicide.
