One of the young mothers scheduled to give a witness talk was absent during the Feb. 6 banquet for the St. Gianna Molla Pregnancy Outreach Center. Nicole Fournier shied away from speaking in front of the 300 people who gathered to support the diocesan-run center that provides pregnancy care information, referral services and baby items to women and children living in poverty or in need of assistance. read more...

Editorial: March for Life celebrates anniversary

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the March for Life in Washington, D.C., the largest pro-life event in the world. The March for Life seems to grow each year even though the secular media doesn’t report accurate attendance numbers.

As director of the diocesan Office of Pro-Life Activities, Cheryl Calire works carefully and diligently to promote the Catholic pro-life message. A recent training she attended with Catholic Voices USA gave her the tools to better deliver that message, especially when dealing with the secular media.

KENMORE — Kenmore Mercy Hospital was recently granted permission by the New York State Department of Health to proceed with plans for a $5.7 million project to build a new medical/surgical inpatient nursing unit geared toward orthopedic patients.

Baby shower celebrates decision to choose life

The Rosary Novena for Life held its last session for the year on Nov. 17, but instead of concluding in an ordinary fashion, participants ended their campaign in a tangible way by celebrating with a baby shower for a local mother who chose life.

Earlier this year, the New York State Legislature passed a bill that requires parental consent prior to the performance of body piercing on anyone under the age of 18. Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the bill into law, and it is scheduled to take effect in October.
