Campaign chairperson cites importance of communications

The mission of the Office of Communications of the diocese is to generate awareness of the global Church, local diocese news and Gospel values through print, electronic and social media. As a former computer engineer, Father Seán Paul Fleming of St. John the Baptist Parish in Kenmore is helping spread this message as chairperson of this year’s Catholic Communications Campaign which will take place in parishes on the weekend of June 8-9.

Divine Mercy image is welcome addition to education center

A former Buffalo-area artist returned to the Nickel City for the blessing of her latest painting, the Divine Mercy. Diane Hayes, a former resident of East Aurora, revealed her work on April 8, just after Divine Mercy Sunday, at the New Hope Education Center on Jefferson Street. Gary and Linda Tatu, who run the center, commissioned the painting. read more...

The a cappella group Harmonia Chamber Singers will team with the Ars Nova Musicians Chamber Orchestra and St. Joseph Cathedral Choir to present Morten Lauridsen’s orchestral masterpiece, “Lux Aeterna,” during a special one-time only concert on March 10 at the cathedral in downtown Buffalo.

Sisters of St. Mary of Namur cook on 'Our Daily Bread'

Being at the service of those in need, especially the poor, is still in the hearts of the members of the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur. Founded in Belgium and led by Mother Claire, these religious women forged a new beginning in the immigrant communities of America. It was on Aug. 27, 1863, that five Sisters arrived in Lockport. Speaking little English without supplies, they immediately began to educate both children and adults.

Hollywood producer now educates on poverty

Gerard Straub has directed, filmed and produced extraordinary documentaries, written six award-winning books and produced hit shows such as “General Hospital” and “The Doctors.” However, his greatest passion and accomplishment is spreading the word about poverty through film, writings and photography in the hope that it will motivate people to stand up and do what Christ asks.
